Environmental protection specialist Tim Pine (ret.) of the UC Berkeley Office of Environment\, Health\, & Safety\, along with current office interns\, will take us on a tour of Strawberry Creek and share its history and the impact of environmental harm\, as well as how he and others are successfully restoring the creek. As an optional end to the tour\, there may be a gardening opportunity for volunteers who would like to participate in gardening an area with invasive plants!

SUMMARY:The Lemmings (from Barrington Hall)
DESCRIPTION:The Lemmings emerged from Barrington Hall in Berkeley around 1977\, forming a band that provided a soundtrack to the crazy life that was Berkeley at the time.  Playing throughout the Bay Area ( Keystones Berkeley and Palo Alto\, the Berkeley Square\, People’s Park\, Ruthie’s Inn\, the Starry Plough\, Berkeley Veterans Memorial)  their original music was an expression and reflection of life and times in Berkeley in the 70’s and 80’s. \n\n\n\nThis upcoming reunion show is a unique\, once in a lifetime\, last-big-blast opportunity to enjoy that unique Lemmings live show experience once again\, and be reunited and reconnected with many Berkeley and Bay Area friends from the 70’s and 80’s.  \n\n\n\nCourtney’s Other Neighbors is an acoustic trio with cello\, stand up\, piano\, guitar and lots of harmonies\, quirky covers and originals.

There will be booths for various local vendors and grassroots organizing groups\, as well as a stage for performances and speeches spreading awareness about the various ways in which we can be mobilizing to care for our community or uplift the ways we’ve been doing so. \n\n\n\nThis year’s theme is cooperative Principle #7 Care for Community\, Recognizing it’s been a tumultuous year\, the BSC is hoping to offer a space of joy for the community. By providing a space for folks to come together\, share resources on various struggles we care about\, and mobilize for community wellness. As in previous years\, the BSC intends to offer a space where the community can come together\, uplift the fruits of our labor\, and celebrate how we can and continue to take care of one another. Cooperation and mutual aid are essential to our future and we are committed to offering that to our community. By supporting the BSC in keeping its affordable student housing afloat\, we are supporting students’ academic success by meeting their basic needs for housing. We believe in a world where people and basic human needs are prioritized over profits. \n\n\n\nThe event is also to celebrate the coming-together of the community through people power\, and how this spirit of cooperation is the key to a better future for Berkeley. We will do this by showcasing\, uplifting\, and promoting involvement in the various grassroots organizing groups that exist in Berkeley and especially those based in People’s Park. It will also promote and showcase local cooperative businesses\, student talent and activism\, and local micro entrepreneurs and vendors. \n\n\n\nFinally\, the event will also support the local community by partnering with local groups to provide free food and festivities in the spirit of mutual aid.
